Every game has its terminologies and rules while basketball is not excluded. This post can serve as a basic guide to any one who has interest in basketball.

The game of Basket ball was invented by Dr. James Naismith a Canadian Physical Education Instructor in 1891. Althouh most of the terminologies of the game were brought in by others.


Alternating-possession rule:

The possession arrow changes direction after each held ball situation, alternating which team gets possession of the ball.

Assist:

A vital pass that immediately precedes a scored basket.


Backboard:

The rectangular or fan-shaped board behind the basket.


Backcourt:

The half of the court that is opposite a team’s offensive basket; the court a team is attempting to defend.
