We prepared over ten students for last year's UTME and none of them scored below 280. Last year we had students in various parts of Lagos State: Lekki Phase 1, Ikate, Air force Base Ikeja, Shagari Estate, Mafoluku, Ipaja, Mende Maryland and so on.
Our teaching method for preparing students for the exam is based heavily on answering past questions which we use as diagnostic tests. This method has been effective and result-oriented over the years. We give past UTME questions to our students to answer within the stipulated time. We then mark and score them. After they have taken these 'diagnostic' tests a number of times we are able to determine their strength in each of the topics in JAMB's syllabus for every subject.
Our observation of a student's strength and weakness in every subject helps us to determine the areas where we need to concentrate our teaching effort. We teach the student more of the topics in which heshe is weak. And we help to reinforce his/her knowledge in the topics that he/she is string. This approach, which is always very intensive, has been very much effective.
The level and rate of learning improvement of our students are constantly measured. As we do this we make all necessary adjustments that will enable the students learn at a faster rate and retain what they learn far longer than they have done before.
The importance of discipline in learning is one thing we have never failed to stress to our students. We make them know that discipline in whatever one does is very important for success. This is why one of our most important adage at Be-Noble Home School is "teachers are to teach very well while students are to study and learn very." Personal study is something we don't joke with at all. We don't only encourage our students to do daily personal study but we monitor them to ensure that they are studying effectively. We let them know that a student that has the best teachers teaching him/her but fails to do effective personal study will make the effort of those excellent teachers to be fruitless.
Let me sound a note of warning here. At the Be-Noble Home School we do not participate in nor encourage examination malpractice in any form. All we do is tutor our students and help them to learn effectively for outstanding success in their academic pursuit.
