@ednut1: I cannot access my mail now, but I've edited it. I've learnt a lot from you so much and won't do anything to divulge your actions. Just tried to make sense of the clues, dazol.

That said, you did nothing wrong. Just play your cards right next time with the right person(s).

I'm loyal. cool

@gerrard59

I have been following your posts and I believe you're a learned person.
I just accepted a position in Business Development with no prior experience in it. However, I have over 5 years of experience in another field.

It seems you're in that field(business development).

I will appreciate any tips to excel in it.
thanks
It depends on the field you are coming from but BD roles in Nigeria are largely sales oriented, less strategy focused. It also depends the industry this new firm does business in. BD role in Seplat is different from same role in the financial industry. Nevertheless, your communication (verbal & written), negotiating, presentation (PowerPoint, public speaking et al) skills should be top-notch.

Let me rephrase the question. A big payment company in Europe wants to invest in Nigeria market and I am saddled with the responsibility to grow the business. Its a startup. No staffs yet. It will be just me and the CEO.

It is 100% strategic.

So, any input aside from the negotiation and presentation skills?

I appreciate your response!

Congratulations on the new job, it comes with challenges and opportunities. In simple terms, you will have to developing skills typical management consultant use in their daily routine. Which are but not limited to: analytical skills (you will deal with lots of data regarding Nigeria's payment industry), people management (you're probably the only Nigerian and the first Nigerian new employees will meet), logical skills (your thought process has to be aligned like those who work in McKinsey, BCG, Bain and Company etc.) Basically, you're saddled with growing a business from scratch: operations, expansion, organisation, marketing etc.
