Nice as long as you don't put a fire place it's fine. I saw a rich man's house in Nigeria with fire place I can't help wonder whose idea it was . I was laughing so much in shame.

What's wrong with having a fireplace in Nigeria? Do we not have cold weather season anymore?

It's all about choice ,though fireplace not necessary for a tropical climate. Absolutely unnecessary because the coldest place in Nigeria will likely never go below 15 degrees. I've seen homes in Florida with fireplace when i visited there ,though it rarely snows in Florida and most of the state is Tropical .though rarely it gets as low as 10 degrees .
So who decides what is necessary? Does having a fireplace render a building structrurally deficient?

The individual and his architect decides. but in my opinion it's unnecessary having a fireplace in a tropical climate. It's just like having Air conditioner in Greenland . which is totally unnecessary. though no one stops anyone from having air conditioner in Greenland , but it will likely never be used . if you have fireplace in a tropical climate you might as well have snow melting salt and winter jacket and boots . etc.
Well, you can call me wasteful willy because I have a fireplace in my design and I will be using it because I find it very necessary. I am not one to "surfer and smile".

Every homeowner should decide what makes him comfortable in his house.

Absolutely ,Brother!

most modern homes just use a heater that can't be seen ,and fireplace with actual fire is considered old school and going out of style . i'm New school and prefer this method . In any case, if your reason for having a fireplace with a fire facade is for ornamental reason,Absolutely ,Brother!
Actual reason for having a fireplace is to provide heat, not ornamental.

Some people like me like open flames and could care less about latest fads. There’s a reason that homes built in the USA still offer real fireplaces so it can’t be going out of style.

A fireplace wouldn't be out of place if the house is on the Jos plateau. There are seasons when it would/could be used. Years ago, I spent my Christmases at a guesthouse run by missionaries and enjoyed the evenings sitting by the fire.

In January, the temperature in Jos went as low as 10 degrees. In Kuru, 8 degrees.
