Hello, I need the help of forum members concerning obtaining Form M for importation purposes.

I want to import a food processing machine into Nigeria. I have read about the Form requirements. What does the Form M procedures really entail? I don't have a registered company in Nigeria. So how do I go about it? I am not based in Nigeria at the moment though I have Business interests in the country. Can anyone explain how I can import my food processing machines into Nigeria without any problems with the Nigerian Customs Service? I need advice from people who have used Form M to import goods into Nigeria smiley smiley smiley smiley smiley smiley.

Do you help in getting Form M and processing it? How do I go about getting the Form M from Nigerian Banks? Nairalanders, please let me hear from you. Thanks cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool.

Ask well, using form M to import goods In Nigeria is not possible if what you are importing isn't part of goods listed by CBN which are mostly items used in manufacturing. Form M isn't for "any" importer.

Does anyone have the information I am requesting for? Do you have a registered company in Nigeria that pays tax and has a tax identification number? And also registered with FIRS? Please let me hear from you. Thanks.

If you are a specialist in Form M, please let me hear from you. Thanks.

Where are you importing from? I think your best bet is to import it in a shipping container and add a used car to the container. I think this should enable you bypass form M.

You will need a registered business with Tax Idnetification Number to open a Form M with any of the Commercial banks. Your PFI , Marine Insurance and permits from regulatory bodies ( SON and/or NAFDAC) will be needed to approve and be registered on custom’s portal. No big deal ( too much hype).

OPTIONALLY

Meet your shipping company and load your goods. Contact an experienced and licensed agent with your Bill of Lading prior to the berthing of vessel.

PS: Please import legitimate goods only and avoid smuggling.

Check www.customs.gov.ng For detailed information.

Form M is a mandatory documentation process designed by the Federal Government of Nigeria through the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS). The importance of e-Form M is to monitor goods that are imported into the country as well as enable collection of import duties where applicable.
Therefore, that is why it is clearly stated on the website of Nigeria Customs Service that "Any person intending to import physical goods into Nigeria shall in the first instance process e-Form "M" through any Authorized dealer bank irrespective of the value and whether or not payment is involved."
Below process and requirements serve as guidelines for importer to process e-Form M:
Kindly fill e-Form M online to an Authorized Dealer bank with the attached documents (depending on the product you intend to import). Before you can process e-Form M below documents are required:
Proforma Invoice
Insurance Certificate
Certificate of Incorporation/Registration of the company in Nigeria
Registration with Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS).
Up-to-date Tax Payment and hence a Tax Identification Number (TIN).
Valid e-mail address tagged to Tax Identification Number.
Authorized Dealer Bank to process the e-Form M and initiate clearance of the Pre-Arrival Assessment Report (PAAR)
Regulatory Certificates such as SON Certificate, NAFDAC Certificate, Phytosanitary Certificate (where applicable).
The completed Form M will be submitted to Nigeria Customs Service for approval which would be approve or disapprove within one working day.
Upon approval of the e-Form M the NCS will register the e-Form M in the Single Window Trade system and shipment process begins with further certification in order to get SONCAP certificate. SON will activate it on Trade Portal and issuance of SONCAP Certificate is done.
Finally, the goods can be imported to Nigeria and clearing to be done with Pre-Arrival Assessment Report (PAAR) at the port of destination.
