Lagos: Two men remanded for attempting to commit suicide

Two men, Joseph Oladokun, 25, and Sulaiman Ajibade, 22, who had a free ride atop a moving train, were on Thursday in Lagos arraigned for attempting to commit suicide.

The men, who were ordered by Magistrate Folashade Kayode to be remanded in prison custody till June 30, pleaded guilty to the two-count charge of attempted suicide and trespass.

The prosecutor, Inspector Lucky Ojogo, told the court that the men were arrested on June 22 at the Oshodi Railway Station as they disembarked from the top of an Iddo-bound train.

Ojogo said that the accused, who could not produce their tickets on demand, were believed to have climbed to the top of one of the train's coaches at the Agege Railway Station.

He submitted that the men also trespassed by into entering the premises of the Nigerian Railway Corporation without lawful permission.

Ojogo said that the offence contravened Sections 327 and 460 (3) of the Criminal Code of Lagos State and was punishable with about three years' imprisonment.

Well that was a suicidal move and under the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria section 604, suicide attempt carries a minimum of 5 years imprisonment with hard labor.

if that was their only offense then its good the sicude was prevented however, they were gulity of another offense too

And what has the government been doing with all the miserable lives they own all over town? Is it not better to allow these ones commit whatever?
The mumu government was only interested in the second charge that might end in fine (viz: trespass).
