Today is the independent day. Given the state of the nation today, is there any reason to truly celebrate Beyond the hollow ritual of a presidential broadcast, that promises everything and delivers nothing, let us reflect on a few salient points. A standard packet of noodles costs about #100. In the 1980s, 100 naira will feed a Nigerian undergraduate for 75 days at 50 kobo per meal. Fast forward to 2018 and you have a serving senator openly admitting that, only the monthly allowance of a senator is 13.5 million. When you divide it by 30, the senator receives 450,000 daily as allowance, not to mention other esoteric emoluments, unknown to the general public. Yet we have a government that is still pussyfooting over 18000 monthly minimum wage. If you are touched by this message, and you still feel like celebrating- please go ahead. After all, we are in a democracy(some say civilian rule). But as for me and my household, we weep for Nigeria but hope to celebrate her one day. (This is an original composition of the TPM)
