While fumigating the family house today, I came about this device.

What is it? What is it used for?

It is a kerosene lamp and not gas lamp.
It works like a gas lamp as you have to pump in some air to make it burn like a gas. There are cooking stoves that works like that too. But you have to use methylated spirit to on it.

You're very correct, we used this lamp sometimes around 1994 in my house.

Absolutely... It also has a net like fitting on top that brings out the glow. But the heat it generate, nor be here o.
But it glows like electricity..
