The Da Vinci Code is a novel, and it's fiction.

It's fiction mixed with some truths and half truths. It's the half truths you have to be careful with. Everybody has an opinion and so does Dan Brown. Almost nothing is unanimously agreed upon in the world of theology/Christian history

In the book he listed the facts in the book from where he weaved the story, like the existence of the Priory of Scion, the Illuminati, etc.
