Car guru's, what's the name of this part and it's purpose. Am presently replacing my engine crankshaft and mechanic said the engine can work with or without it.

Its called the balance shaft. There should be 2 of them. For most mechanics, installing it back is stressful and cumbersome. Others say you gain a little more horsepower and more Engine oil pressure. It is meant to reducing engine vibrations especially for a big engine like the 2tr. Yes, the Engine will work without it but the hole needs to be properly covered. |
