I have seen a lot of self styled people on Nairaland, some claiming to be coders, programmers, but not developers.

Respectfully, without recourse to bullying. What differentiates a programmer from a developer.

Programming is a subset of Development - a Developer can be a Programmer while a Programmer cannot be a Developer

A programmer is only concerned with the write of codes to achieve a particular functionality which a Developer must have provided from his functional specification

A developer on the other hand is concerned with the breaking down of a business process into 'bunch' of functionalities using some methodologies haveing phases like (analysis, design, etc)

A developer is a broad compared to programmer

I remember this definition when i was in uni.

But i think in practice any software development work no matter how small requires some element of analysis and design.

programming is the actual writing of the code and i doubt if there is anyone out there who does tcoding alone these days

But at the long run, developers still need programmers to achieve their aim

Programmers-> Strictly coding nothing else. If they do anything that is not coding they get dismissed because they probably did a terrible job at doing it
Developers->Identify a problem, Break the problem into subproblems,design a suitable algorithm, carry out analysis, identify all necessary tools for building a solution(which includes the most suitable programming languages), oversee the design of a system(solution), identify the right implementation method and lastly coin up the most suitable maintenance measures.
So programming is just a very small chunk of system development

Developer is the guy that builds or develops the idea e.g the brains behind nairaland.
A programmer is d guy that codes the tools used for development e.g d guys dat built d core cms nairaland is running on.

In other worlds as a developer u make use of frameworks and tools, modifies dem to create ready to use apps .

Coder are those people that build website with coding language ....why developer are those that developed server....they also developed software or app
