(1)POOR LEADERSHIP

Leadership is the act of taking the lead,it's more than leading people.
So unfortunate,a whole lots of our leaders do not know what leadership is all about.
Leadership has so many components to make it more effective and efficient.
Compared to other developed countries, the masses serves the leaders in our own continent.
Someone who ought not to win a single vote in his/her local government would manipulate election and be voted as a senator for his constituency.
The true concept of leadership which entails (vision, sacrifice, diligence and doggedness, courage) is totally absent in our continent.

(2)INEFFECTIVE POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC POLICIES

African nations have no problem making new economic and political policies, but the old ones are not maximally put into effective usage.
A whole lots of time our leaders uses a round peg for a square hole.
Until we learn to make economic policies which would affect the common man on the street positively,we would not achieve effectiveness.

(3)POOR MAINTENANCE CULTURE OF NATIONAL AMENITIES.

African nations generally has poor maintenance culture.
Building some new national monuments and social infrastructures was never a problem with billions of naira from taxes paid by the masses as long as the old ones are abandoned.
Our government love to savour the hapiness and joy which comes with building new infrastructures without having plans to maintain it.
We are like a young man who marries a second wife while complaining that the first wife has aged.
While forgetting that time would make the new wife to age too.
In the overall production cost, the maintenance cost at the long run usually exceeds the initial cost of production.

(4)INSENSITIVITY OF THE GOVERNMENT TO THE PLIGHT OF IT CITIZENS

African government uses some tools to oppress it citizens.
Tools such as creating artificial hunger, unpaid salaries, poverty.
A presently serving Governor in Nigeria had 38 months salaries in arrears and he paid all within the space of 3 months despite the state allocations not been withheld by the Federal government.
The same Governor is contesting for re-election after wasting four years.
The most painful part of these whole episode are the masses that would still vote him in a landslide victory.
Our government lacks accountability to the masses.

(5)POWER DRUNKENNESS

Sometimes I do wonder while an average African leaders want to remain in power forever.
The days of the late former president of South Africa Nelson Mandela seems gone.
After been jailed by the apartheid regime for 27years at Robben Island,he only contested for one term of four years.
From so many late past presidents General sanni Abacha,Late Robert Mugabe,Mobutu Seseko,Robert kabila.
Most African leaders sees power as once in a lifetime opportunity which must be held unto by all means and passed to there immediate relations.

(6)POLITICAL CABALS

Every nations has it own political godfathers.
I would define a godfather as a highly placed political leader who has a say in the emergence of any new political leaders due to his/her political pedigree, social, financial influence.
This act was never a problem not until the whole nations are at the mercy of a political godfather.
When a godfather want to take the whole percentage for all the elected/selected political son's/leaders.
Being an African was never a disadvantage, but our leaders are the number one problem to be tackled if we would ever break even and compete with other nations.
