His father High Chief Remi Fani Kayode was one of the betrayers that left the Action Party with Samuel Akintola and joined Nnamdi Azikiwe and Tafawa Balewa and jailed Obafemi Awolowo. During the January 15, 1966 Igbo coup, the same Remi Fani Kayode took the coup plotters to Akintola's house and watched Akintola killed by the Igbo coup plotters
