TO THE QUEENS

Here is to the queens.
To sisters holding on to their dreams in face of mounting pressures.

It is a bloody tug
Of war and pains
Against scorn and leers
Fending of scum and jeers.
Striving to keep the plum and cookie jars.

Here is to my sistas.
The queens who spend time listening to babbles in the cradles
Wives who hold down the forte while waving a weak fire log of lingeries to keep the wolves away.
Wives still maintaining their cool in a world hoping they lose it.

Here is to the Amazons.
The warriors expanding the frontiers for the girl-child.

Daily, you fight tooth and nail,
To starve old demons from mutilating girl children across the world.
To knock out the beasts who subtly shut the doors to the big oval offices.
To save little ones from marrying deviantly excited beastial men whose lecherous eyes race to do evil.
To wash filth off your weak compatriots who lie in the streets of big cities, broken in the body and mind by drugs and 10 dollar 'short-times'

I indeed cheer you, Amazons
For your gallant bravery termed as 'uber-feminism'
For your bravado in rising up to demand the right to own properties and inheritance.
For your incensed outbursts in response to rape incidents.
For your e-hugs and monetary barricades you put up to shield victims from the 'Expect my lawyers' crew.
I celebrate you all.

To all Queens.
Cheers to you for standing strong.
And remember.
You are priceless rubies in the sight of the Almighty.
Priceless apples who God shields with fiery jealous eyes

So keep on fighting!
And building alliances!
And littering the streets with corpses of failure and gender bias.
And paying your respects to the Iweala's, Malala's, Chimamanda's and Michelle's who paved the way.
God knows my Atinuke will be grateful to you someday.
