There are two former governors that by a 2007 law on pension for public office holder, are paid 100 percent of the basic salary of the incumbent governor, receive a house in Lagos and Abuja, six cars every three years and all expenses paid; medical treatment for the governor and members of his family. These persons also receive 300 per cent of their annual basic salary as furniture allowance, 10 percent as maintenance allowance, 20 per cent as utility allowance, and 30 per cent as car maintenance allowance. In a country so severely short in policemen to secure life and property, a former governor will also have eight policemen and two security operatives of the Department of State Services to protect them. These are only for the governors. Bola Tinubu since 2007 has collected 24 cars under the pension provision and is due to collect another 6 cars in 2022. Babatunde Fashola who left office in 2015 has collected 6 cars and is due to collect his next batch of 6 cars in 2021. https://guardian.ng/opinion/the-ex-governors-sleazy-pensions/

LibertyRep:This pension provision was first enacted in Lagos and shortly after copied by other states. These leaders all claim to be "billionaires" before office, and still expect the state to maintain their lifestyles to live like kings on earth like Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos. While the people they governed lack 24 hour electricity, portable water and healthcare facilities. 1 Like |

RuudVanNisteroy: Since Lagos is a marine state, we Lagosians wish our ex governors included yatch as part of their perks for service. We want the pension document to be updated and luxury yatch to be inserted as part of perks to Lagos State Governors after their tenure. The yatch is to be renewed once every five years. Afterall, the money is there! 1 Like 1 Share

OP, the only region of refuge in Nigeria is Yorubaland, and particularly Lagos. There are many Lagos boys from East who escaped terrorism back home to come hide their head in Lagos. If our Governors are as incompetent as they are in East those SE elites will not come here to hide. Its a hectic job to run a city, particularly one that hides SE elites from killers back home. Those that keep Lagos running and safe deserve a reward from all of us, SE included. However, the South Easterners are reluctant to show appreciation. Instead, they are envious that Lagos is not run down like home. It keeps its beauty and swag. This is the root of attacks on those who made Lagos Center of Excellence! I will repeat, we, OMO IBILE, approve our governors to add luxury yatch to their perks, and sell it off and purchase new ones every five years. Use proceeds of the sale to support and sponsor orphans and abused women in our state. They deserve to chill and enjoy the sea with their families on weekends. A yatch will do that. |

BabaRamota1980:During slavery there were people that were called "house niggas", but were still slaves that supported the slave traders. They taught because the slave trader let them in his house they were better off than the slaves picking cotton. And that is what you are. No Governor in United States,Germany and Australia enjoy such pension benefits and they are the wealthiest nations in the world. The poverty capital that can't even provide portable water or electricity to it's citizens is giving an Ex-Governors multi-billion pension provisions and your supporting it. I pity slaves like you. 1 Like |

RuudVanNisteroy: Yet the best of your ethnic group, the creme de la creme of your SE are dying and tripping over one another to call it home, labelling themselves Lagos boys and VI boys and Lekki boys and making f00l of themselves. The best of you live under the rule and law approved by the godfather of Lagos. If you dont want godfather pack your Lagos boys to Onitsha and make them Abia boys or Awka boys. As long Orji Kalu, Peter Obi, Ngige, Obiano, TA Orji, Cosmas Maduka, Ifeanyi Ubah, Stella Oduah and all your money miss road homeless politicians live here in Lagos, they must abide under rule authorized for all of us by our collective godfather, the Jagaban of Africa, next President of Nigeria. If they dont like it tell them to return home to a godfather-less region. 3 Likes |
