Are We To Pay Tithe Of Our Time Too?? by Odunayomi247(m): 7:23am On Oct 04, 2020
The bible says in Malachi chapter 3 that we should bring ALL tithes into God's storehouse. Now tithe means ten percent of everything God gave us. The LORD gave us 24 hours each day.

Are we sinning if we refuse to give God at least 2.4 hours a day or is tithing only monetary??

Hi there.

Where does the Bible say that "tithe means ten percent of everything God gave us?" This is what I read from the Bible:

22 “You shall truly tithe all the increase of your grain that the field produces year by year. 23 And you shall eat before the LORD your God, in the place where He chooses to make His name abide, the tithe of your grain and your new wine and your oil, of the firstborn of your herds and your flocks, that you may learn to fear the LORD your God always. 24 But if the journey is too long for you, so that you are not able to carry the tithe, or if the place where the LORD your God chooses to put His name is too far from you, when the LORD your God has blessed you, 25 then you shall exchange it for money, take the money in your hand, and go to the place which the LORD your God chooses. 26 And you shall spend that money for whatever your heart desires: for oxen or sheep, for wine or similar drink, for whatever your heart desires; you shall eat there before the LORD your God, and you shall rejoice, you and your household. 27 You shall not forsake the Levite who is within your gates, for he has no part nor inheritance with you.

28 “At the end of every third year you shall bring out the tithe of your produce of that year and store it up within your gates. 29 And the Levite, because he has no portion nor inheritance with you, and the stranger and the fatherless and the widow who are within your gates, may come and eat and be satisfied, that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hand which you do.
Deuteronomy 14:22-29 (NKJV)

That is the law of the tithe. It was of all agricultural produce (money was only allowed in the first and second years of the three-year cycle in order to make travel to wherever the Tabernacle or Temple was easy for those living far away from it, and that money was not 10% either) derived from the land of Israel during the time that the nation existed as a theocracy. In the first and second years of a three-year cycle, a tenth of this produce was supposed to be taken to wherever the Tabernacle (and eventually the Temple) was so that the Hebrews could feast and celebrate God's gracious provision for them. In the third year, instead of feasting, they gave the tenth of that produce to the Levites for their own use and for provision to the indigent foreigners among them, the orphans, and the widows. It was a divine tax meant for keeping the government that God provided for them through the Levites and the priesthood functional and also for welfare purposes in Israel, so that there would be no poverty in Israel:

4 However, there will be no poor among you, since the LORD will surely bless you in the land which the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance to possess
Deuteronomy 15:4 (NASB)

Since that nation no longer exists and the Law of Moses has been removed by the Cross of Jesus Christ and replaced by "grace and truth", I confess I don't understand the claims made about tithing in your post and by many others today.

14 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.
Colossians 2:14 (NKJV)

23 But before faith came, we were kept under guard by the law, kept for the faith which would afterward be revealed. 24 Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. 25 But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.
Galatians 3:23-25 (NKJV)

17 For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
John 1:17 (NKJV)

That does not mean that we are not responsible to support fellow believers and our pastor-teachers financially and otherwise materially:

6 Let him who is taught the word share in all good things with him who teaches.
Galatians 6:6 (NKJV)

10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.
Galatians 6:10 (NKJV)

We are to be generous to worthy pastor-teachers (see also 1 Timothy 5:17-18; 1 Corinthians 9:13-14). And we are to be generous to fellow believers when their need is genuine as Galatians 6:10 teaches (cf. 1 Timothy 5:11-12; 2 Thessalonians 4:6-10). Finally we are to be generous to even unbelievers when their need is genuine, in order to witness to them about the generosity and love of Jesus Christ, just as Galatians 6:10 teaches too.

In other words, the full principle of the tithe is preserved in the New Testament system that we have received through the Cross of Jesus Christ. There is no need for the blasphemous invocation of the Law of Moses anymore, but then not many people really care what God says, so they will continue to lie against Him and claim that He says things He didn't say and commands things He does not command.

There's nothing you give to God that is a waste. It's wise investment to give to God without measure. Give and it shall be given unto you.....e get why Bible talk am
