My Tinylight Camry...advice Needed by dadalicious: 9:44am On Oct 27, 2020 |
After 10years of struggle on a job that refused to increase my salary, I just acquired a 2nd hand tiny light Camry as family dey increase. I want to maintain the car as my own GLK until God pick my call. I intend servicing every month. I noticed that the engine check light came on, some days later, fuel pump cast. Another time I noticed check light and timing belt cut some days later. Now the check light is on again, the OBD port is bad so I can't check what the issue is. I need advice on how to maintain this car in pristine condition. Any one with information either good or bad concerning this car should please comment Thanks fam. |

dadalicious:MY OPINION What engine is it? 4 cylinder or 6 cylinder? i know those engines to be very strong & reliable. depending on the current state of the engine but servicing the engine every month will be waste of oil and funds except if you travel very long distance. when i used the type, i serviced every 3 months regardless of distance travelled. though the vehicle was used within town. first thing i will advice is this, get a competent auto tech or electricals expert to repair the wiring to for the OBD port so you this will make it easier to fix engine problems in the future. also what have you noticed so far haven driven the vehicle? what's the current state of the engine? |

OP, I drive a 01 Camry and its 303K miles on the clock. When issue started, I took it to AUTOLOGIC and he restored it back to Pristine condition. If you're in Lagos, reach out to him 08067766316. Depending on the current state of your ride, na so e go charge and no! He's not pricey at all. 1 Like |

AutoMoTech:Thanks boss It is a 4 cylinder. I haven't had any serious issues except that the timing belt has cut twice in the space of one month. I will take your advice to fix the OBD port. From my novice point of view, the engine is okay. |

dadalicious:ok. i used the type of vehicle for years. sold it just 2 months ago. asides regular servicing and oil leak, the major problem I had was the engine belt cutting several times like ones in 3 -4 months. I guess its a major problem with those vehicles. find an experienced tech to help you check the cause of the frequent belt cutting. make this thing no go fail you for middle of night o. 1 Like |

AutoMoTech:Abeg nor vex. Is engine belt and timing belt same thing? O don't know that's why I am asking. Then the oil leak, is it from the top where the plugs are? Thanks for your prompt response and advice |
Re: My Tinylight Camry...advice Needed by AutoMoTech(m): 8:36pm On Oct 27, 2020 |
dadalicious:Yes na same. Sometimes no be same I used "engine belt" because na him street techs sabi pass. There are different places oil can leak from. Chec the one you are suffering from. Ours was from a faulty crankshaft oil seal. If na plugs own you get, e fit be valve cover oil seal. Do you have oil leak? |

AutoMoTech:When I bought it, it had some oil spillage. na near where the plugs dey. It didn't cost much to fix, 500 for the gym, 2k for seal. Na only that timing belt be the issue. From your analysis the car dey alright. Thanks alot boss.. You too |

For your timing belt, you can change your water pump and also check for wears on the pulley teeth. The belt tensioner could also be the culprit. just ask a professional to check these stuffs for you. I use a 99 Camry and changing the water pump stopped the frequent timing belt snapping for me. 1 Like |
