Diagnostic error or test is one of the most serious problems in healthcare system today, and it causes more harm than good to its victim.

According to Johns Hopkins medicine USA, more than 250,000 people die in America every year from medical errors. Other reports claim that the numbers is as high as 440,000. Also the Society to improve diagnosis in medicine says that diagnostic errors affect more than 12 million Americans each year and seriously harm one-third of these patients.

Now, if America can record such high rate of deaths due to wrong diagnosis or medical error, what do you think that is happening here in Nigeria. The fact is that, the severe consequences of wrong diagnosis are always costlier than the disease itself.

Wrong diagnosis causes delay in treatment of the actual disease, which may lead to life-threatening complications.

Wrong diagnosis may lead to consuming medications for a disease that has not developed at all which can cause severe side effects or drug overdose, especially synthetic medications.

Wrong diagnosis may cause a patient to undergo surgery that he or she never needed.

Wrong diagnosis always leads to unnecessary waste of money after wrong treatment and in worst case, it may lead to death.
