I'm currently preparing for my exams now and came across this question.Past questions are not always correct, so please help. He went up quickly and returned_________ a. Fastest b. Very fast c. Fastly d. As fast I chose D but the answer shows B. I do not want to go by mistakes. Thanks. |

The right option of the four is B(very fast). 'Fast' can function as an adjective as well as an adverb. In this case, the verb 'returned' is best modified by 'very fast'. Here is it, 'He went up quickly and (he) returned (fast or very fast) or (he) returned (as fast as he could). So, of the four options, B('very fast') is the most appropriate/correct option. 1 Like |

B is the answer "very fast" because the first clause is talking about the manner in which he went up " quickly". Your answer, "as fast" is wrong because the sentence is not talking about comparison. |
