Manchester united locked horns with premier league arch rivals Liverpool on Thursday evening. The red devils were looking to seal a second place position on the table.. United started the game in the best manner possible as they took the lead with just 10 minutes on the clock after Bruno Fernandes swerved shot was deflected in by Phillips as the home side drew first blood in the game. That goal would wake sound as a wake up call to Jurgen Klopp's men who would hit back in the 34th minute after Diogo Jota flicked in a shot past Dean Henderson at the near post. Liverpool would put themselves ahead just before halftime as Roberto Firminho broke his long goal drought with a towering header to put the away side 2-1 up at halftime. The away side resumed the second half in the same manner as they ended the first as they extended their lead following a defensive mishap by United in their own box with Roberto Firminho grabbing his second goal of the night.United got themselves back in the game after Edinson Cavani fed Marcus Rashford who sent a first time finish past Liverpool's goalkeeper to reduce Liverpool's goal deficit. United went close to drawing level but they were denied by a goal line clearance from Philips who managed to keep out Mason Greenwood's effort. Mohammed Salah would however seal the win for Liverpool with a goal in injury time as Liverpool Jurgen Klopp's men sealed all three points against united.
