How frequently do you read user's policies on the sites you register with? Many location-based accounts like PayPal regularly ban accounts that use VPN, especially if the VPN does not provide a dedicated IP address. This is because VPN has leakage and user's location can be traced through the service provider which can be forced to reveal the actual IP address of any user.

In contrast, Remote Desktop Protocol, RDP, provides remote Desktops on Virtual Private Servers, VPS, hosted by companies like Amazon, Digitalocean, for users to access the internet at the chosen location with static, residential and dedicated IP address. In that case, it is only the location of the remote desktop that is revealed, while the actual location of the user is untraceable.

Remote Desktop Protocol is the commonly used name for a group of applications that allow you to access computers or devices from a remote location. RDP or remote desktop even allows you to launch applications, change administrator settings, and perform other tasks as if you were using your computer from your desk. While having some similarities, VPN and remote desktop are functionally different things. A VPN will give you access to a network while remote desktop or RDP will give you control of an entire computer.

With RDP, you will be assumed to be in the actual location. For instance, if you chose the USA as your location during set up, your computer would be using a direct US IP. RDP gives you access to work with a remote PC with static IP address. More like using a PC (connected to the internet) in the US remotely with your PC in Nigeria.

There are several drawbacks to keep in mind when considering a VPN as a remote work solution. First, VPNs generally require significant amounts of bandwidth. RDP also enables resource sharing, the use of multiple displays, and the ability to temporarily disconnect from the remote desktop without logging out of your applications.

Data is required to transfer to your pc

Remote desktop is much better than Vpn by 1M ways. But the only shortcoming is just that you can not switch to different country ips as in the case of vpn but just one static IP will be issued out for rdp

Both RDP and corporate VPN intranets can be used to access resources on a remote network. However, each provides a different level of access. A VPN will allow you to connect to the LAN to use a printer or to access files remotely and download them to your machine. RDP, on the other hand, allows you to take over a computer terminal remotely to make use of that PC as if you were actually there - including using licensed software that is installed on that machine.

RDP (Remote PC) only works with a PC. You use your PC to remotely use another PC with a dedicated IP in the USA, UK, China etc. That means instead of traveling to those countries to connect your PC to access the websites of your choice, you can stay in, eg Nigeria, and remotely use a PC, configured for you to do the same task.

RDP not only allows you to access network resources, but allows you to have access to the resources on a single computer. This means that you can run specific network licensed software that you wouldn’t be able to otherwise. RDP is great because it allows you to screen share, and over-all it’s easier to use and more secure than VPN.

my main concern is downloading. for example i want to download a movie that has 3gb size. can ibdownload that movie into that remote desktop without using data from mtn, aitel and etisalat. just the bandwidth of the rdp. like how movie copiers in lagos do?? if you understand what i mean.

The Remote PC does not offer free data to download files. Just as you cannot connect to the Remote PC to access websites in those remote locations without your internet data. RDP needs the data by your internet service provider to connect to the Remote PC at the location of your choice.

But RDP system is untraceable. With RDP, you will be assumed to be in the actual location.
