Throwback Record Of The Week: eLDee – Big Boy (2008)

Long before Don Jazzy smashed his way into the Nigerian music industry, there was another don who had been churning out hits since the late 90s.

And that person is none other than eLDee The Don!

As if producing ground-breaking tunes for The Trybesmen wasn’t enough, eLdee went on to launch a successful solo career. And one of his most memorable solo projects is the 2008 album titled “Big Boy”.

The album gracefully rode the wave of the hit single “Bosi Gbangba”, which was a massive favorite among the ladies and gents.

Even though eLdee was a renowned lyricist, he showed his song-writing and melodic prowess on the tune, which carried listeners from start to finish.

Another massive hit that drove the album’s success was the single, “Big Boy”, which featured Olu Maintain and Banky W, both of whom were really popping at the time.

Speaking of Banky W, he had my favorite line on the track – “Cash comes before honeys/ They only want my Etisalat money”. Which was a reference to his newly-signed Etisalat deal (one of the earliest big-money brand deals in the Nigerian music industry).

Other notable joints on the project include “Evolution”, “Go”, “Rewind”, and “I Know Bad People”.

The Big Boy Remix with Iceberg Slim, Rukus, and Proto was dope too!
