Hi guys and BMW gurus,

I want to get a BMW 325I for daily commute to work, mainland to island and maybe once a month journey to ijebu ode. That`s the farthest i`d ever be going with my car. I have been in love with this car for years now.

Pls is it a sensible car to get in terms of fuel consumption, mechanics know how, cost of spare parts and servicing. I know this model is a 6-cylinder engine so the fuel consumption can`t be compared to say Honda civic or toyota corolla, two cars i have used previously.

Also can i comfortably afford the running of this car on a salary of 150k?

Attached is the image of the car

BMW is the twin brother of Benz. But the parts are cheaper compared to Benz.

Yeah, the more prestigious twin brother. But then, i can`t fit it into any context as i have not driven or had a benz before

It’s a good car when maintained regularly
It’s one of the most reliable bmw made.
But with your salary, you shouldn’t be looking at Germans, though it can carry routine maintenance but you’ll have to pray no serious issue comes up.
I will suggest you use the money to get a Japanese.
If you have the car already and it has a good maintenance history, it should be good to go
But with your salary, you should be looking at Bullet, Baby boy, EODs, pencil light them.

You are not a good adviser sir, how will you say someone earning 150k can't maintain this car if it's tokunbo?? Will he be spending money on maintenance every month..this car don't give issues like that, except the owner is a care free person sha..

Cool bro, you will enjoy your ride, it's very rugged car and doesn't give issues without early warning..just monitor your dash board for any sign or indicator..and be maintenance cautious..it's a strong car and don't let anyone discourage you..Happy new month..

with a salary 150k, you want to start driving beamer. Bro, that car is above you, in fact, if you're not thinking about car you could very much use to get more money, then you don't have any business buying a car right now. It doesn't pay to use over one year salary to buy a car, such money should go for investment. Mobile 1 oil is almost 50k now, I'm sure you won't be happy using over 40% of your salary to service car.

With 150k monthly income in this type economy, you're only putting so much stress on yourself buying any car, and bmw to say the least.

A 2004 civic which you can use to hustle once in while might even do you better

Haha Mobil 1 oil on 2005 BMW 3 series known as Coja in Nigeria.I used this car way back 2006,damn expensive then but with 150k salary now the guy is free to own the car.He should just go for 4 cylinder 316i and 318i with low fuel consumption that can be compared to any Japanese car.

Oga go for 316i or 318i for low fuel consumption but if you want real power then go for six straight inline engine and the best is 330i better than 323i,325i and 328i regarding easy maintenance.....I can vouch for this car cos I used it in 2006.

I never said the Mobil 1 is for the BMW car, just saying that high quality oil which I'm sure the car will demand is very costly.

Bullet,Baby boy this era and EOD that can disgrace someone at any time with bad shafts.....pencil lights, well cool but had a very poor reviews from manufacturer and one of the worst Camry made by Toyota but funny Nigerians love this car thanks to our average mechanics.I will pick 2000-2005 BMW 316i and 318i over your mentioned Japanese cars, even in fuel consumption they are not better than BMW 316i and 318i not to talk of performance.

Yes,but these Japanese cars are expensive as Tokunbo than BMW 2000-2005 model....Oh remove Golf 4 when we talk of everyday driving,BMW Coja is far better.I used both and I regretted buying Golf 4.

My last car was a 06 Civic, certainly ain`t going back to an 04 or to the Civic itself. I want a BMW, that`s why i am asking about it.
Back to the oil issue, doesn`t the Bimmer use the same type of oil a normal sedan car would use??

Thanks this is noted, read somewhere about the 316i always having issues accelerating cos of the weight compared to the power. How true is this pls??

Four cylinder m40 or m42 engines have timing issues once the top is changed you can never get the ideal settings
And most of them easily have misfiring issues leading to grinding of valves and all that .
And the overall engine sound is boring loool ..
M50 engines hardly ever have those issues ..your main problem would just be the legs .
That also is a small thing to fix

I'll advise you go the automatic also ..the manual are not the most reliable in terms of clutch plate and disk
