Hi everyone,
Is there anyone here that can provide information on using the Nigeria Railway travelling from Lagos to Ibadan on a Friday morning ?
For someone who is at the MMIA Ikeja airport, which of the train station is closest and is it possible to leave the airport at 6 am and arrive the station early enough to buy ticket and board the train ?

I am not familiar with Lagos and currently out of the country, just planning to fly into MMIA and take a cab to the train station in the morning.

My flight arrives MMIA Ikeja at 8pm Nigerian time which means I will stay in the airport till early morning as I'd rather not move around late in the night, then once its 6am I would want to take a cab to the train station and make the trip to Ibadan to see my Uncle before boarding another plane/bus to Port Harcourt.

Thank you for your suggestions.
Beekind,

I hope this response is not late.

Find below the train schedule based on my personal experience, as well as the current timeline.

1. The closest train station close to MMIA is the Babatunde Fashola Station, Agege (check Google Map).

2. Yes, your schedule is feasible. If you leave the airport at 6am you'd get to the train station before 8am.

3. The train moves from Alagomeji Station, Yaba, at 8am and stops at the Agege station at 8:15am to pick the waiting passengers, then moves again after just a 5-minute wait.

4. The price from Lagos to Ibadan is around #3,500 to #4,500 currently (they recently increased the price).

5. The coaches are very comfy, neat, with full AC. You will enjoy the ride.

If you have other questions, feel free to ask. Safe travels. cheesy

Wow thank you so much for your time and detailed response.
I was trying to get info on the internet about boarding the trains but somehow got the impressionn I could only board the train at Mobolaji Station while the train only stops over to pick people at the Agege Station.
Are you saying I can actually buy train tickets and board the train at the Agege station ?

Also , I arrive the MMIA at 8pm Nigerian time, is it possible to sleep over in the airport till 6am the next morning ? I want to avoid moving around Lagos that late in the night.

Thanks again for your time and input.

1. Yes, that's correct. You can buy your train ticket at the Agege station, just ensure you get there early enough before it's sold out.

2. Depends on your plan for comfort. You could stay over till the next morning at the Airport if you are comfortable sleeping over at one of the lounges.

Alternatively, you can book a hotel very close to the airport before landing, so you just check-in once you arrive.

Have a safe trip.

Would probably just manage for the night in the airport, don't want to go through the stress of transiting at night with the attended risks in Lagos.

Thank you for your time and input.
