Add the 2 numbers around the longest side of the triangle and substract 3(a constant arising from the 3sides of the triangle) from it. It will give you the number on the shortest side.

Eg 1: 2 + 4 - 3
=6-3
=3
Eg 2: 7+2 -3
= 9-3
= 6
Eg 3: 1+3-3
= 4-3
= 1

Assignment 1: 10+15 -3
=25-3
=22
Assign.2: 3+8-3
= 11-3
= 8
Assign.3: 4 + y - 3 = 17
So, y =17 + 3 - 4
= 16
Etc
