The Federal Executive Council [FEC] has approved contract for the construction of a bridge over River Benue to link Nasarawa State and Benue State, when completed the bridge will reduce the heavy traffic on the Abuja- Lokoja Road and[b] cut two hours off from Abuja to Enugu said to be a strategic road for the North Central, South East and South -South zones[/b].

N36.118 billion was approved for the construction of Ojuloko-Oweto Bridge over the River Benue, and will be completed in 48 months.

Disclosing this to state house correspondents after the Federal Executive Council meeting, the minister of works, Architect Mike Onolememen who joined that of information Minister, Mr Labaran Maku said that the contract will cost over N36 billion and will be completed in 48 weeks’ time.

The council on Wednesday while reviewing the Architect Ibrahim Bunus Presidential Project Assessment Report also approved the procurement of two boats for the Nigerian Customs Service to enable them check all forms of smuggling along the Nigeria’s Waterways.

The Council approved the procurement of two A-30 boats for them, which will cost N 270 million.

According to the report the over two hundred dams constructed across the country or still under construction are without proper technical designs.

The contracts came after a careful deliberation on the presidential project assessment report on dam construction in the country.
