ADDITIONAL STATEMENT BY DEJI ADEYANJU ON BETTA EDU AND THE SCANDAL ROCKING THE MINISTRY OF HUMANITARIAN AFFAIRS

-Almost all ministers under the Tinubu government transferred money into private accounts & breach civil service laws, only Betta was caught.

-Permanent Secretary to Betta was also involved, he cannot be put incharge of the ministry

A few days ago, I issued a statement commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for swiftly suspending the Hon. Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Dr. Betta Edu, following the scandal that has become the hallmark of that ministry.

However, the subsequent pronouncement by the Presidency directing the Hon. Minister to hand over the affairs of the Ministry to the permanent secretary, has raised a haze of clouds in my eyes and doubts in my mind, hence this additional statement.

As we all know, the permanent secretary is not only the highest ranking civil servant in the ministry, but is also the chief financier officer of the ministry. In fact, the permanent secretary is the engine room of every ministry. While politicians come and go, the permanent secretary is always there until he or she resigns.

It is, therefore, highly unlikely that the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs was unaware of the corrupt practices that was going on in that ministry. The permanent secretary ranks only next to the Minister.

How were these monies moved to private accounts without the knowledge of Mr. Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan, the permanent secretary? Whose duty was it to bring the minister abreast with the various civil service rules aimed at prohibiting corrupt practices? Can the permanent secretary truly deny knowledge of the sleaze that went down in that ministry or is it a case of several person dipping their hands into the public purse but only the person who was caught is called the thief?

It is in the light of the foregoing that the decision by Mr. President to hand over the running of the ministry to the permanent secretary is, in my opinion, ill advised. For a holistic investigation to be carried out in that ministry, as directed by Mr. President, the permanent secretary and all the directors must equally be suspended, to determine their culpability if any, in what has become a national embarrassment.

The president is, therefore, urged to hand over the affairs of the ministry to any other permanent secretary in any other ministry, but not the present permanent secretary of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs.

From my findings on this matter, all minister under the Tinubu government transferred monies into private accounts on the advice of civil servants mostly the permanent secretaries of their ministries. I have also come to find out that these civil servants deliberately get politicians and political appointees to contravene civil service laws so as to have something over their heads in order to perpetrate corruption unchallenged. The EFCC must investigate all ministries and not just Humanitarian alone.

Justice must not only be done in this case, but it must also be seen to be done.

Comrade Deji Adeyanju

Betta is either a sacrifial lamb of wicked ministerial kleptomaniacs or a burnt offering to appease a section of the country for the NSIPA scandal or a case of self imolation as a result of unbridled greed .

I like Betta all the same , she looks like a very smart lady without the public sector experience.

You all be sounding like Beta was a novice in civil service jobs. She was a commissioner in Cross River for fvkssakes! Even her role as APC woman leader is akin to a civil service job or any other paid employment.

Betta did what was the norm in most ministeries and knowing it was very wrong to do so. She's just unfortunate her village witches overpowered her.

She had a lot of public sector experience. It's just the well seated corrupt mindset of political office holders.

If Tinubu was privately informed about this, he won't even bat an eyelid. But due to the public outcry no thanks to social media, she would have continued her renewed hope chant while neck deep in pen robberygrin

Assumptions and nothing else. There is no evidence in public domain that the Permanent Secretary advised her to break the law. The fact that the memo sent to the AGF was signed by the minister herself instead of the PS suggest that the minister might have sidelined the PS in the fraudulent transaction.

Again it must be noted that the money in question was not paid from the account of Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs where the PS is the accounting officer but from the account of NSIPA where the National coordinator is the accounting officer.

Calling for the suspension of the PS without knowing the facts is premature. At this point, we should allow investigators do their job without crucifying people based on assumptions. If the PS is indicted by investigators, he will be dealt with.

That ministry should be scraped and everyone permanently relieved of their duty

What exactly has the ministry done for poor Nigerians or Nigerians affected by disasters like flood and terrorism

The previous minister is accused of stealing billions of naira meant for poor Nigerians same as this recent one, albeit six months in office

Some minitries should be closed or merged to save money and avoid this blatant fraudulent acts

Since you have evidence that all the ministers transferred money to private accounts, why don't you release the evidence so that the law can take its course on them too.

If she had succeeded, the money would have been fixed in that account for months to earn huge interest. Then when they withdraw it, it will be utilized for a quarter of the project while receipts would be tendered to cover the whole half a billion.
The remaining money and the interest, so pe otilo.

Everyone knows that civil servants are the most corrupt set of Nigerians, more corrupt than politicians so when dealing with them you've got to be very careful. Edu equally had/has corrupt tendency if not she would have been more careful and asked more questions.

Adeyanju knows next to nothing.
He should check the track record of the PS. Few weeks before her disgraceful exit, she approached the HOS to remove the PS, in her words "He was not cooperating with her" in terms of her devious plans.
He had advised and warned her about the path she chose to take.
He had issue with former Minister of Aviation, and was removed because he refuse to aligned with the bogus Nigeria Air project .
Adeyanju, hope the minister never come see you?

Story for the Gods, did they force her to write memo How do you retire or monitor money paid into private account Incase you don't know only the account holder can request a statement or initiate a transfer. So how do you monitor such. Was that what she was doing as a state commissioner. Call a spade a spade. She tried to steal and was caught period.
