NYSC Committed To Promoting National Unity…Coordinator

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) says it is committed to promoting national unity through its various programmes including cultural interactions.

Mrs Blessing Iruma, Coordinator of the NYSC in Anambra said this during the Cultural Festival organised for members of 2024 Batch B Stream 1 orientation course in Anambra.

She said the Cultural Carnival was a celebration of the rich cultural diversity that existed within Nigeria and provided a platform where the 10 platoons in camp came together to showcase the unique aspects of the diverse ethnic groups.

She said each platoon represented one of the approximately 250 ethnic groups in our country, highlighting various elements of their cultures including dance, cuisine, history, marriage, and fashion.

“This carnival is more than just a display of cultural heritage; it is a powerful demonstration of our collective strength and resilience as a nation.

“By coming together and appreciating the traditions and customs of different ethnic groups, we celebrate the unity that binds us as Nigerians.

“Through this carnival, we aim to foster a sense of belonging and understanding among our corps members.

“It is an opportunity for us to learn from one another, to break down stereotypes, and to build lasting friendships that transcend ethnic boundaries.

“I want to commend the efforts of all the platoons and their members for their dedication and hard work in preparing for this event,” she said.

Iruma commended the corps members for their exemplary performances which epitomised the spirit of the NYSC.

In his remark, Mr Don Onyenji, Commissioner for Culture Entertainment and Tourism in Anambra called on youths to be proud of the culture and way of life of their people as it remained their natural identity.

Onyenji said youths should take the institution of marriage seriously and go into as provided for by their respective culture areas for sustainable union.

The festival features sackrace, kit up, egg race, fill the can, culture parade among others.
