The snake was there due to the proximity of the human habitation to its natural habitat and most likely came in search of prey to hunt.
Pythons are not choosy about where they go to seek out potential prey.
They are known to even invade farm buildings including poultry houses to seek for prey and even human houses aren't out of bounds to them.
Pythons are such adaptable snakes that they can live in a human building for months or even years without being detected.
What makes it possible?
1. Their ability to lie motionless for hours and days which is pronounced in ambushing prey.
2. Their slow movement which is often meticulously articulated.

That's a very huge snake there! I'm sure many goats and fowls must have disappeared on many occasions in that area. And the residents might have wrongly suspected or accused innocent boys of stealing those animals.
