The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), has issued a public alert on the Nivea Roll-On deodorant recalled by the European Union Rapid Alert System for Dangerous Non-Food Products (RAPEX) Authorities over safety concerns, News360 Nigeria reports.

The NAFDAC said that the recalled cosmetics is Nivea Black & White Invisible Roll-on deodorant, 50ml marked 48H Protection in African Climate with batch number: 93529610.

According to NAFDAC, the European Union (EU) Rapid Alert System for Dangerous Non-Food Products in Brussels recalled the product produced by Germany for containing a chemical prohibited in cosmetics because they are harmful to health.

“The recalled Nivea product is said to contain 2-(4-tert-Butylbenzyl propionaldehyde (BMHCA), a chemical prohibited in cosmetics products due to its ability to cause harm to the reproductive system, impairs the health of an unborn child as well as skin irritation and burns to users,” NAFDAC said.

The agency warned, “Importers, distributors, retailers, and consumers are advised to exercise caution and vigilance within the supply chain to avoid the importation, distribution, sale, and use of the above-mentioned Nivea Roll-on with the affected batch.

“Members of the public in possession of the affected batch of product should discontinue the sale or use and submit stock to the nearest NAFDAC office.

“Healthcare professionals and consumers are encouraged to report adverse events experienced with the use of regulated products to the nearest NAFDAC office.”

Not all Nivea products are affected.

Let Nigerians not buy Fakes. There are other Nivea products

Nivea is an international brand, and its products are still used in developed countries.
However, it took NAFDAC more than one year to enlighten Nigerians on a product banned in Europe

I am very sure if European Union Rapid Alert System for Dangerous Non-Food Products (RAPEX) had not recalled this product, the dummies in Nigeria called Nafdac would have just collected money and release it into the market.

If the Europeans didn't discover and recalled, nafdac wouldn't have known or screened said product to realize that there are harmful substances in them.

It took them about 1½ year to inform Nigerians grin

That period is enough to flood it into Nigerian market
