Before now, I used to imagine the meaning behind the names of some vehicle model lineups. Having done google search and realizing no answer found on nairaland, I decided to write it here for curious mindsets like myself.

Lexus
LX: Luxurious crossover
RX: Radiant crossover
UX: Urban crossover
NX: Nimble crossover
RC F: F stands for high performance
LS: Luxury sedan
LC: Luxury coupe


Mercedes Benz
CLA-Class: A coupe design based on the A-Class
GLB-Class: A design based on the B-Class
GLA-Class: A lightweight SUV based on the A-Class
GLC-Class: A compact SUV based on the C-Class
GLE-Class: A mid-size SUV based on the E-Class
SL: A roadster vehicle, often with a hardtop convertible roof
L: Indicates "Leicht" (lightweight) for sporting models, and "Lang" (long-wheelbase) for sedan models
R: Indicates "Rennen" (racing), used for racing cars
S: Indicates "Sonderklasse" (Special class) for flagship models

Audis

A
The base model, which includes sedans, hatchbacks, and wagons. For example, the A3 is a subcompact sedan, while the A8 is a full-size sedan.
S
The sportier version of the A model, with enhanced performance features and a more powerful engine.
RS
The top-tier performance vehicle, with advanced engineering and increased power. RS stands for "RennSport," which means "racing" in German.
Q
The SUV lineup, which includes the Q3, Q5, Q7, and Q8. The number indicates the size and placement of the SUV within the group.
E
The electric vehicle. Audi's electric vehicles include the Q4 e-Tron and Q8 e-Tron SUVs, and the e-Tron GT sports sedan.
Audi also has the TT two-seat coupe and convertible, and the R8 exotic sports car, but these were discontinued after the 2023 model year.
