Army Reopens Imo Market Weeks After Killing Of Soldiers By Suspected IPOB by Ndimkpurummiri(op): 7:02am On Dec 07, 2024
The Nigerian Army has re-opened the Rescue Market, popularly known as Malaysia Market, Onuimo in the Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State.

The General Officer Commanding 82 Division, Maj-Gen. Hassan Dada, reopened the market which was closed three weeks ago after an attack on a military checkpoint by suspected IPOB members resulting in the death of two soldiers.

Speaking to traders at the market on Friday, Dada charged them to take responsibility in protecting their communities by supporting security agencies.

He said his visit was part of community engagement with the people for them to understand that the Nigerian Army is there for them.

“It is our responsibility as the military to protect you but we will not tolerate killing soldiers.

“Once you see something wrong and you don’t act, it is going to consume you,” he said.

The GOC said that he had directed his commanders in Imo and Abia to always interface with the people to find out their security challenges.

Dada who also decried the poor number of registration by Igbo youths during Army recruitment exercise, seized the opportunity to urge the people to consider joining the Army as a noble profession.

The GOC distributed some 10-kg bags of rice and vegetable oil as palliatives to some elderly traders to cushion the effects of the market closure.

“We appreciate the fact that due to one inconvenience or the other, some people have not been able to ply their trade.

“That is one of the reasons we also did palliative, that in the spirit of the festive period, the Army is always with the people,” the GOC said.

Responding, the Acting Chairman of the market, Mr Jerry Uzodinma, thanked the GOC and pledged the traders commitment to support the military in ensuring security.

Similarly, many stakeholders who spoke including traditional rulers of affected communities in Imo and Abia states, expressed gratitude to the military for their services.

Army intelligence is 0%.

Terrorists attacked you. And the only thing you could do is to shutdown a market for more than 3 weeks instead of arresting or killing the terrorists.

Checkpoints up and down, but the terrorists are having more than 70% success rate whenever they attack army/police at these checkpoints.

You are sharing 10kg of rice to some old traders whom you deprived their source of income for 3 weeks. What is 10kg of rice compared to 3 weeks of lost income?

Security will hardly improve when army and police operate like bandits.

Biafra is an independent and rightful state; therefore, by international law, Nigeria is an occupier and Biafra resistance, even violent, is warranted ~ Michael Rubin

Happy Slave and trash are like bread and butter,

When there is killing in southeast it is always IPOB according to BATerians but when there is killing in Southwest it is not Yoruba Nation agitator but Fulani herdsmen.

Yeye people.
Re: Army Reopens Imo Market Weeks After Killing Of Soldiers By Suspected IPOB by kushme:
Why would a Soldier man close down a market, are you an Imo State official?

You are even telling the people you had directed your commanders to always interfere to know their security challenges. Are you a police man, what is your business with civilians?
See, this civilian/military interaction should be limited. Na wetin dey cause problem.

You people should stay away from towns and cities, strife will spread with guns around, go into the forests where these bandits, UGM,ritualists and terrorists are hiding. They kidnap people on highways, take them into these forests without any pursue, only to be bombing villagers and be making excuses.

We really don't like seeing gun wielding men in villages, towns and cities anyhow.

IPOB hide amongst the people like the cowards they are.

I am sure the Army wanted to minimise casualties in getting their revenge.

They shut the market so IPOB rascals had to stay in one place for Thunder to fire them which I bet happened.

The terrorists have their camps inside bush, not in the market.

How many markets are shut because of bokoharam?

Instead of cautioning the soldiers to be hypervigilant and invest in intelligence gathering, he came to warn the civilians who had no hand in the violence.

Imagine telling women in the market that they will suffer the consequences of a soldier's irresponsibility and failures.
