Ogun State Police Command said it has arrested two security guards for allegedly setting ablaze a 44-year-old man identified as Basiru Aliu in Agura Sabo, Sagamu area of the State.

This was contained in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, and obtained by DAILY POST on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the suspects, Segun Sodiya and Segun Abatan mistook the victim for a thief while he was helping his employer move his belongings from his former residence to a new site in Ijokun.

Odutola noted that the security guards violently attacked the victim and allegedly set him ablaze.

She disclosed that the incident was reported to the command by the victim’s boss identified as Fatai Ifekoya.

Odutola said “Aliu was reportedly helping his employer, Fatai Ifekoya, move belongings from his former residence to a new site in Ijokun at around 7 a.m. on Monday.

“While carrying out the task early on Monday, Aliu was said to have been violently attacked by Sodiya and Abatan, security guards employed by one of the residents, Kingsley Nwabueze.

“The duo allegedly poured a flammable substance on Aliu and set him on fire, believing he was trying to steal the items he was transporting for his employer,” she said.

Odutola while adding that the suspects had been arrested and would face charges of attempted murder, encouraged locals to report suspicious activity to the police rather than using violence.

What I find especially disturbing, is the fact that the attackers were security guards.
Lawless security guards who couldn’t take the accused to the police station, but resulted to attempted murder as a solution to what they thought was a robbery. Crooks. They better pray that guy survives.

Nothing like mistake. It was a planned murder.

Those guards must be executed by hanging to send out a strong message that jungle justice must not be tolerated.
