Greedy Nigerian sellers who want to turn big boy billionaire are the ones setting the price. Government has to do something about the prices set in the market and regulate it. Some people seek to make 500% profit and attack sellers who sell for cheaper. Nigeria as a country should not be this import dependent. Especially if it’s coming from Cotonou. A lot of these fishing countries get this fish off the coast of Nigeria.

Another thing Marine and Blue economy minister who is just sitting there collecting salary supposed to be chasing and stopping these thieves in our waters.
Someone mentioned devaluation of the naira, another mentioned import duties but you blame innocent businesses that have to generate a profit? Then you suggest regulation, please read me clearly, regulation leads to higher prices, not lower. The moment government regulates a service or product, the price increases, not reduces. This is a global phenomenon.

I really don't know why university educated Nigerians reason poorly than expected.

Some of you that attended the worse universities in the world come online to talk nonsense. Prices are regulated all over the world. Only in Nigeria someone will sell something for 1000% profit and bully their competitors to sell at the same rate. I said what I said. Not everyone on Nairaland is as dumb as you think. Some of us have extensive experience in this things. If you do not regulate prices we see prices like we see in Nigeria. It’s our fellow Nigerians doing us.

Buhari did the same with wheat only for the prices to soar. The moment government regulates prices, they actually increase. The alternative will be to reduce import duties and levies. Tinubu did this not long ago and food prices reduced. The other alternative is to flood the market with government reserves. From the same thread, I realise we don't have those fishes within West Africa. So your Marine and Blue Economy strategy has even failed before it commenced. So, what would you suggest now? Regulate the Atlantic ocean?

BTW, good luck dictating to businesses across an ethnically fractured country to reduce their prices.

I won’t teach you common sense. You can’t grasp it like you could not grasp that food prices are regulated round the world to prevent gouging. You don’t even know what you are talking about.

The simple truth is: regulation leads to an INCREASE, not a DECREASE.

Go ahead and reduce the price of a product that isn't within the shores of West Africa.

Must everybody be a fisherman before they can afford fish? Very soon you will ask people to drill their own oil and build their own refinery.

Tufiakwa.

Go fishing

The cause is your refusal to be a fisherman.

..naira devaluation.. leading to high costs of importing it.., high costs of fuel, diesel.. which makes transporting the fish to the market expensive..lack of constant power supply to refrigerate the fish, frozen and preserve it...which makes the fish seller to refrigerate the fish with generator buying fuel and diesel at high costs..
All this to try Tinubu harsh economic policies..it's a pity

Funny Nigerians. Ordinary fishes that are across the rivers, we are still importing embalmed fish and turkey.

Be preparing to buy 1 fish for N10k until we receive the missing senses
Titus fish is already over 10k.

Abuja... Just visit Market Square supermarket, Gwarinpa. There's another one near Gwarinpa pedestrian bridge, along Kubwa expressway.

Coté fish (Shiny fish) is 4,200 per kilo; while Titus fish is over 10k

The irony is people who are quick to call someone olodo are the worst olodos. Now let me school you. In 2015,#200 could easily get me a plate of food, then fast forward to 2025; #1500 can hardly get me a plate of that same food. That is 7.5 times increment. Minimum wage then was 18k and now minimum wage is 70k. That is 3.9 times increment . Who is now poor at mathematics? You know the answer now don't you?
doyin01:
Oga you must be so poor at mathematics..

How much do you buy plate of food now ?? You now spend up to x4 of what you used to spend in 2015...same way minimum wage is now up to x4 of what it was in 2015..from 18k to 70k.. or you are so poor at mathematics ?? angry

If you Compare and you are not olodo...then I have stated the facts here.. you are the one who is still arguing blindly.
