Hi everyone. I need advice.

I am learning data engineering.

Some people tell me:

"Learn the tools first like Airflow, dbt, BigQuery and build real projects. Later, you can go deep and learn how the tools work inside."

But I also think:

"If I understand how things work under the hood, I will be better in the long run."

My question is:
👉 Which is better to do first learn the tools, or learn how the tools work inside?

I want to grow fast, but also be strong in knowledge. What do you think?

Learn the basics/theoretical part of data engineering. Generation, source, ingestion, transform, serving, and its undercurrents. Then you can chose a platform, azure, ibm aws etc.
