The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has established a National Task Force to address the unauthorized use of its official number plates. This move comes in the wake of a troubling incident involving a vehicle bearing a NANS plate found with arms and ammunition. Approved by the National Executive Council (NEC) of NANS, the Task Force has been mandated to operate across all 36 states and the FCT, with the primary duty of identifying and retrieving vehicles unlawfully displaying NANS number plates. Effective immediately, anyone currently using NANS plates—whether obtained through legitimate or illegitimate means—is directed to remove them without delay. The Task Force will begin full enforcement operations, and any vehicle found in violation will be impounded, with the occupants handed over to the appropriate security agencies. To ensure transparency and compliance with national laws, the Task Force will work closely with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) throughout the enforcement exercise. NANS also clarified that only persons officially approved by the National Secretariat, and with valid documentation, will be permitted to use the association’s number plates. Members of the newly constituted Task Force include: 1. Comrade Salahudeen A. Lukman – Chairman 2. Comrade Alimi Yusuf – Secretary 3. Comrade Chide Nzekwe – Member 4. Comrade Dominic Philip – Member 5. Comrade Shata Maikyau – Member 6. Comrade Levi Okuru – Member 7. Olugbode Damola Hamed – Member 8. Comrade Shedrack Anzaku (Representative of the National Secretariat) – Public Relations Officer The association reiterated that this initiative is aimed at preserving its public image and ensuring that criminal activities are not carried out under its name.
