Something has been puzzling me lately… Almost every street in Nigeria has generators buzzing day and night. Many families even have more than one, and businesses spend millions yearly just to fuel them. Yet, when solar is mentioned, most people say: “It’s too expensive.” “What if it doesn’t last?” “Can it power my freezer or AC?” But if you think about it, the average generator owner has already spent more than the cost of a solar system between buying, maintaining, and fueling it every month. So my question to you is: 👉 Why do you think Nigerians trust generators more than solar? 👉 Is it fear, lack of awareness, or simply convenience? 👉 If you had the option today, would you switch to solar fully? I’d love to hear your honest thoughts. |

The cost of purchase and installation is the reason many people avoid solar. Then the problem of substandard batteries in circulation makes the whole thing unreliable. There is no way of authenticating whether the solar product will serve its purpose in the long run before purchase. My neighbour just replaced his batteries after two years of installation. |

I think the main issue with solar is power management. Most people want to do everything they do on NEPA and generator while using solar. They want to watch TV, put all the lights on, use Ac, use microwave and pumping machine 😂😂😂 simultaneously |

Lack of maintenance, high initial set up cost, substandard materials, and long term issue. I know several people that installed solar and were flexing it initially . But none of them used it more than 2 years before running back to either generator or NEPA. |

To be the only people that even need solar are those into business that requires at least 10 to 15 hours light daily..... Such as bet shop or big business center.... To an average person, generator is still cheaper to maintain... U on ur gen not every day, u can only on ur gen only weekends.... The monkey to buy big solar battery alone can buy fuel for more than 3 years........ The best solar to use is usually the small one, that powers only light and charge ur phones.. that one can serve u for at least 3-4 years... |

darocha1:I am in the minority. I am 100% off the grid. I run one AC 24 hours a day, I use my microwave, cooker, air fryer, washing machine and dryer, water pump and my office that has 11 people and an AC during the week. I trust solar 100%. |

Precious201010:I beg to disagree. People often think solar are about those big packages only but that's not the case. There are other smaller options like power stations. 2. Running generator for a few hours and being conscious of the fuel finishing is not life. Real life is enjoying unlimited hours with no pressure. Imagine having unlimited calls/data on your phone line compared to loading 100n to surf youtube. |

Power management, battery/inverter capacity and service life. I travelled for work last month and I had to stay in a hotel for a few days. There was no electricity in the area, so my focus was finding a hotel with power supply. The first hotel I stayed in said they have solar, but it never lasted the night. I was so frustrated. Imagine charging with panels throughout the day, turning it on at about 9pm and it could only last 6 hours? I had to go another hotel where they would at least turn on their gen from 7pm till 7am the next morning. |

lordtim001:The blame should no longer be on the vendor. The user (hotel) May also be à culprit for engaging non professional, buying products themselves, non compliance to agreed load. Having said that, any serious person in the hospitality sector must have a functional and adequate solar system capable of ensuring customer comfort round the clock |

Because installers are dubious! Generator setup is straightforward Installer go bill you 2meter,yet you won't power your home appliances for more than 2 hours daily If installers can be straightforward, solar would overtake generator's |
