Remain in Nigeria.
Use intended capital to start a tech school.
Continue to freelance.

Of course, I speak from my own POV. But this path gives you the choice of building the next generation while affording you the freedom (and capital, in a few years) to travel for vacations.

Good day family, I greet oh. Would be nice to get your thoughts on something.

Say you’re a guy in your early 40s (Got a wife and a kid), based in Naija. You’ve spent over 3 years transitioning from Sales into Tech. Now you have head above water, freelancing as a web developer (Upwork and the rest).

Let’s say you’re now looking to Japa (with or without family, they can come later), and you can raise about ₦50m or more. You’d like to plan it properly and give yourself about 5 years to get PR (Permanent Residency). The goal is to relocate without starting from scratch again or going back to school.

I know the popular routes: Canada Express Entry, UK Tech Nation visa, different Digital Nomad visas. But I’m wondering would they still be what you'd recommend? Or are there other viable and maybe less expensive routes that make sense? Especially ones you’ve tried personally or know people who have. I don’t mind learning a new spoken language, but I want to stay in Tech (programming, or something related that my software Development skills would still come in handy) as a career.
Forget Canada. Nothing is happening there. Immigrants are having a very rough time there. Better move to Europe

You can explore the Portugal residency it eventually leads to PR and while it might not be the US/Canada you will have access to EU region, the cost of living is not crazy and there is a community of digital nomads.

Personally Portugal would be my next option if Canada doesn't work out for me.

All the best, you should leave naija and get a second passport and be shuttling between countries.

I disagree, I moved here and seen people get jobs and have their live changed, there is something here, it's just that most people come with aduro or without a plan, if you have a good career and know how to network on LinkedIn, it will make a difference, it won't be easy but the ROI for relocating would be worth it. I'm seeing people who were regular citizens in Nigeria have a good life here but at the same time it's alot of work involved.

Another option is applying for Tech jobs in the country of your choice, directly from Nigeria. If you pass qualify and pass the recruitment process, the company will sponsor your visa and may even pay for your flight ticket.
