Kano has over twenty million people. This inadvertently means over 50 billion naira a day is spent in Kano. That is over 15 trillion naira a year. Kano however has an igr of around 100 billion naira per annum like around the same size as Osun state. If Kano can not have the same igr as Lagos, it should have at least half or slightly less than half. If Nigeria should break up today, how will Kano fund its budget of 1.5 trillion naira? Is it then they will know to start collecting igr? Kano is the most important state in Northern Nigeria. Their ancestors before Nigeria were not depending on handouts to run their land. It is totally wrong for any state most especially a highly populated one like Kano to have over 90 percent of it's budget financed by handouts |
