Coup Plot: Full Names of 16 Nigerian Military Officers Indicted Over Alleged Scheme Against President Tinubu

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has publicly released the names of 16 officers of the Nigerian Armed Forces who have been indicted over alleged serious misconduct, including a purported coup attempt against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Major General Samaila Uba, Director of Defence Information, confirmed the announcement on Monday, stating that a Special Investigative Panel had concluded its probe and found sufficient grounds for disciplinary action against the officers. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

“The panel’s investigation revealed actions inconsistent with the ethics, values, and professional standards expected of members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria,” Maj. Gen. Uba said.

The indicted officers are expected to face a military Court Martial in accordance with existing military regulations and procedures. The DHQ emphasized that the exercise is disciplinary and intended to preserve internal discipline, cohesion, and operational effectiveness, affirming the Armed Forces’ loyalty to Nigeria’s Constitution and democratic order.

Most of the officers are drawn from the Infantry, Signals, and Ordnance Corps of the Armed Forces.

Maj. Gen. Uba reiterated that the military remains committed to upholding discipline, maintaining operational effectiveness, and ensuring loyalty to Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

The indictment follows growing concerns over internal threats and underscores the Armed Forces’ determination to investigate misconduct swiftly and transparently.
