How Easy It Is To Grow Ginger. (video) by Mariangeles(op): 5:38pm On Aug 19
With the way ginger is becoming expensive, I believe we should consider growing our own.
That is, if you're fortunate enough to live in a place where there's space.

The good part is that they can even be grown in sacks/buckets, plus, the plant itself is beautiful.
And they thrive in a climate like ours.

Agriculture is the best form of employment and empowerment. We seriously need to go back to farming of all kinds.

Growing our own might be the only way to get that real flavor back. The ginger in the markets lately feels so weak and lacks that strong punch it used to have. Does anyone know if it's due to GMOs or just poor farming practices?

Agriculture is good but wha people don’t tell you is it’s capital intensive espcially if you are trying to do it on a large scale. You need land( trust me this is very very hard to get) you need seedlings/ tubers or root or sucker which cost money too- you need fertilizers, pesticides, weeding regularly—- I know these things because I have been there it’s not as easy as people make it out to be

Grow it in your backyard
Backyard Farming itself is not easy. Planting around the house is not easy. I am seriously into cultivating fruit trees in my compound and around the house. Weeds are a major problem and you have to buy manure e.g rabbit Faeces and chicken faeces to help your plants grow vividly. You have to water your plants by yourself during the dry season. Agriculture is not easy.

Everything here is from one ginger I planted threw away less than 2 years ago.

It's in my backyard I'm not a farmer and it doesn't even need much care

Whenever I need to use it u just go out, uproot some and replant the rest

I wonder why bitter kola and ginger suddenly became very expensive. These are plants that were very cheap and almost cost nothing then. Today, their prices are off the charts.

...it's due to the high costs of fuel..it has caused high rate inflation in the price of foodstuffs, goods ..the high costs of transportation of these kola nuts, ginger to the market for sale is the cause of the high costs of kola nut and ginger

Nigeria use to have the best ginger in the whole world, before they brought gmo seeds that reduced the value of our ginger

If this is the case, why can't farmers in the southwest plant Ginger on their farms massively to reduce the cost of Ginger and Kola nut? At least, the cost of shipping from the southwest farms to Southwest markets will be cheaper 🙏🙏. What do you think?

My mum plants ginger but the specie isn't the commercially viable one. She ends us throwing them away. I think the species in high demand doesn't do well in her farm.
