JOB BRIEF: RETAIL OPERATIONS ACCOUNTANT

Remuneration: ₦200,000 – ₦250,000 Net Monthly Base Salary (+ Monthly Loss-Prevention Performance Bonus up to ₦50,000)

About the Role
The Apex Superstores is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented, and firm Retail Operations Accountant to lead our financial control and inventory audit function.
In this role, you will be directly responsible for closing financial leakages, conducting daily till and bank reconciliations, managing supplier invoice verifications, and performing unannounced physical stock audits. You will hold functional audit authority over all store staff, ensuring complete alignment between physical shelf stock and our POS database records.
Key Responsibilities:

Till & Revenue Reconciliation:
Reconcile daily cashier till balances, physical cash drops, and POS sales summaries every morning.
Perform daily, real-time matching of bank transfer receipts against store bank account alerts to prevent payment fraud.
Identify, document, and report any cashier till overages or shortages to Store Management.

Inventory Control & Audit:
Conduct unannounced physical spot-checks across high-shrinkage departments (frozen foods, beverages, and village market items).
Verify all incoming supplier goods against Purchase Orders at the receiving dock alongside Security Personnel.
Authorize and post verified Goods Received Notes (GRNs) into the POS accounting database—ensuring no staff member adds or adjusts stock without your sign-off.
Lead monthly full-store stock counts, calculate variance values {Physical} - {System}), and present monthly profit vs. cash flow reconciliation reports to Executive Management.

Financial Reporting & Payroll Processing:
Track monthly gross margins, cost of goods sold (COGS), operating expenses, and net profit margins.
Compile monthly attendance and shift logs to prepare salary schedules and performance KPI bonuses for final management approval.
Audit supplier invoices and ensure all accounts payable match agreed delivery terms before payment release.

Candidate Requirements & Qualifications
Education: HND or B.Sc in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.

Experience: Minimum of 2–4 years proven experience as a Store/Retail Accountant, Audit Officer, or Inventory Accountant in a busy FMCG, supermarket, or retail environment.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in retail POS software, database entry, and advanced Microsoft Excel (data lookup, formulas, and reporting templates).
Key Traits:
High personal integrity, transparency, and emotional independence.
Strong backbone with the ability to hold floor staff and management accountable to internal control rules.
Keen eye for detail to catch micro-shortages, unverified bank alerts, and inventory discrepancies early.

Remuneration & Benefits
Base Salary: ₦200,000 – ₦250,000 monthly (commensurate with experience).
Loss-Prevention Bonus: Up to 15% to 30% extra monthly tied to keeping monthly stock shrinkage under 0.25% of total store revenue.
