I will like to do a data base Oracle course(OCA/P) as a Geologist cuz I likes IT world and whole lots of new innovations in that world , can this be my best combination as it hold much/promising? My fellow nairalanders I need your candid opinion on this.

its useful. Both Oracle and Mysql have GIS facilities ( before the purists jump on me, I mean they have datatypes specifically designed for storing Geospatial data). but some computer programming experience might also be used to support this too.

Sql Server has that too, and the express version is free like MySql. Most enterprise level db servers should have GIS.

The direction you take might depend more on the platforms you will develop on (Linux, Windows, Android etc).
You might also want to look at key-value db systems, like Hadoop, Redis etc; these tend to be between tens and hundreds of times faster and more scalable than RDBS. That way, you can free yourself off being tied to a specific database vendor and express yourself with code instead.
