Swahili is a African/bantu language. It was/is a unique culture with a heavy Islam influence due to trade. Kiswahili, though a Bantu language, was a lingua franca for the Indian Ocean Trade spoken in N.Madagascar, Oman, to the Persian gulf, Zambia. Though this doesn't mean that they ruled over others. Cushites didn't rule over the Swahili nor did the Swahili rule over the Cushites. The Swahili coast had independent city-states from Somali to Mozambique. |
