Individually, the goal of any energy matrix [or comparatively, a brain’s neural net] is to garner and store energy and regenerate. However, since each new matrix formation is influenced by chaos, the formed arrangements are not identical, varying in progressively lesser degrees by species, subspecies, and among individuals. Individually, each matrix varies in degrees of efficiency and therefore rates of decay or entropy; thusly, form follows function intellectually. Since learning requires an initial energy expenditure before allowing the brain to move to a lower energy state, only those energy systems with a stable sufficient energy surplus for learning can effect its own capacity to evolve. Therefore, individual “intelligence” varies as a function of any one system’s efficiency and is manifested by its consistent ability to cope with environmental changes and thus greater intelligence can increase survivability. However, it is also true that function follows form. Evolution operates by a set of checks and balances. For example, physical evolution doesnt just look down on a species of bird and noticing it is surrounded by a ready food source in the form of nuts with a shell too hard for it to break and says, I gotta fix that. The effect of chaos produces a myriad of mutations; some good, some not so good. Only those mutations that not only offer increased survivability [i.e. a harder/stronger beak], but also does not diminish an individuals mating capability [i.e. makes him too ugly to attract a mate], will be nurtured by the environment. Any successful mutation can then be passed to future generations genetically.
