Late this afternoon, around 4:00 PM, two soldiers visited Fayose Market for personal reasons. An argument quickly escalated into a physical altercation between the soldiers and a civilian trader at the market.

One of the soldiers reportedly drew a dagger (or machete) from his side pocket and attempted to assault the civilian. Onlookers in the market intervened, gathering to overpower and beat the two soldiers.

In retaliation, around 5:30 PM, the Nigerian Army personnel mobilized and arrived at the market. They began shooting sporadically into the air and attempting to arrest people. During the commotion, a stray bullet struck a young girl hawking oranges and also hit another Lady.
