I used peugeot 406 for 12 years & 307 for 10 years. 406 is a good for both local runs & journey, same applies to 307. It's doesn't give problem if you have a good mechanic, not all those mechanic that repair more than 10 brands of vehicle. The only thing you will need to watch out for is the timing belt & oxygen sensor. I normally buy it's original belt & replace it every 2 year, not ones that is sold for 6k that last only 4 - 6 months while the oxygen sensor (green) helps the vehicle in its economy, if it's faulty you will notice black smoke from the exhaust. After these 2 things I never issues with both cars. If not for the new models with timing chain, all other peugeot with timing belt, requires changing every 2 years if you're using the original one. Avoid cut & join electrician, because almost all wiring comes from the brain box. If you observe this then peugeot will last longer than you expect

Pls I just want to enquire waz about buying a 406 but waz told dat it has a EW12 engine and waz advice not to buy cos they are usaually problematic

The only thing abt EW12 is that sensors protect the engine for been damaged by Overheating & Low engine oil but aside this EW12 has a brilliant performance more than EW10. How EW12 protects it's engine is that once there's severe oil leakage Eg not replacing the dip stick & oil leaks out, it ceases acceleration & writes d fault for about 5 minutes before going off. Until oil or water is added as the case may be before vehicle starts

I used Peugeot 406 EW12 for 10 years and no electrical faults, the fuel economy is excellent & the performance is to another level. The problems are not so as difficult as people say, just that there are no good mechanics here as such but you can still meet a few good ones. It's problem majorly is the timing belt, that needs to be checked yearly + Oxygen sensor(green colour). If the oxygen sensor on th exhaust is bad, then you get to see black smoke behind the vehicle.

EW12 is a good & more reliable engine than EW10. I used EW12 for 10 years & I haven't had challenge of engine/ gearbox. It's a pretty fast ride when you drive but it's reverse gear is on gear 1 like dat of volkswagen but it's so reliable. It's parts are common cos they share parts with EW10 apart from engine & gearbox, then a few parts shared with the V6 406 engine. The acceleration on EW12 is so sharp that @ the speed of 70km/h while on fifth gear, you need not reduce it for sharp overtaking, you just punch on the gas & it delivers the way you want It to go. It takes less than half tank from Niger to Kano state & one full tank from Abuja to Lagos. EW12 has a safety feature that beeps when you are on high speed & it's economy mode is active up to the speed of 160km/hr & it's highest speed is 270km/hr.
The more reason people see that EW12 isn't good is because the car doesn't tolerate fake parts dat are so common in our market today, it's better you continue using the car the bad part than use a fake one, it's will always show you the same problem & keeps beeping when driving Dats on engine parts like nozzles, exhaust, plugs, sensors etc. But so far so good, mine runs fine & excellently. Just dat you will check the Timing belt every year, which common in Peugeot from EW7 - EW12 for the petrol engines
