Hate speech is sure protected under the 1st amendment, Hate actions are not. Regardless of whatever group is involved (both of which personally I dislike): whether you call them white supremacists/nationalists or Black Lives Matter; they have freedom to air their grievances peacefully. It is when another group show up and begin to ferment trouble, then it is when it gets violent which should be condemned.
