I don't have time to argue about your lack of understanding, NTDC is a major body of tourism, they assist in funding projects and other tourism concepts in the country as they deem fit. Even at that, they and the entire ministry may still have lack of funds and may seek the intervention of the finace ministry to help gather support, sponsorship or partnership with bodies like world bank or also to give a more suitable budget allocation by explaining to the economic board why such emphasis must be given to the tourism ministry. Please, Osun state's Osogbo Festival, Cross River's Tinapa project, Abuja festival, the Tourism masterplan, Calabar Christmas festival, Anambra state's new yam festival and a whole lot more are major culture and tourism concepts that NTDC has not been significantly involved in, but has actually been spearheaded by their federal ministry on their behalf. Before the current minister took office the NTDC boss did most of the work that occured in tourism because the other ministers probably lacked passion, because Chief Duke together with Mr Runsewe and co has and are taking tourism in Nigeria beyond the usual expectations.

Dame Patience Jonathan has founded several internationally recognized philanthropic and women empowerment programs such as the A-Aruere Reachout Foundation (AARF), which serves to improve the earning potential of Nigerian women and youths. She is one of the few African first ladies who actively supports women obtaining higher education and public leadership positions.  In 2008 she received the “Beyond The Tears” International Humanitarian Award for her role in the global fight against HIV/AIDS and the African Goodwill Ambassador Award. I am a journalist so I know what goes on in Nigeria. Many of you here are empty barrels concerning issues in Nigeria which is not a surprise as all you know is 'demsay' (word of mouth and press)This is for @Delafrita and @demdem: Mrs Okonjo Iweala is the head of Goodlucks economic board, therefore she and her team can help make sure that the tourism ministry is well funded and their major projects are well supported etc. Dame Patience Jonathan has set up several foundations in improving the welfare and creativity of women and youths all over Nigeria through AARF and other foundations. She's a founder/co-founder, member or patron of so many poverty eradication bodies in Africa; and as tourism in major parts of Africa looks on how to empower women and youths to utilise their creative potential, the UNWTO deems Dame Patience Jonathan an excellent ambassador of tourism in Africa.

For those that do not know, the first lady has been one of the few people in Nigeria along with Minister of finance Mrs Okonjo-Iweala for the support of the tourism ministry in Nigeria. Never in Nigeria's history has the culture & tourism ministry attract a lot of attention globally before the current Minister.Chief Edem Duke came in. Look at how big our tourism has transformed in less than 12 months since he took office. 'Whom God has blessed, nobody can curse.'It's obvious that the minister has told the UNWTO how much she's supported the ministry, therefore they deem her worthy of the award SHIKENA.

The Best performing minister is Chief Edem Duke minister of Tourism. In the past, ministers there don't do make an impression or even make u remember that the ministry exists. With the small allocation that ministry gets; he has attracted a lot of foreign attention and cooperation with the ministry's tasks and objectives so far.
