UN Security Council has rejected a Palestinian resolution calling for peace with Israel within a year & an end to Israel's occupation by 2017. What's more shocking was Nigeria abstaining...why? Blind loyalty to US? All peace loving citizens of the world should do more to isolate apartheid Israel. if not, we complicit in their suffering. The Nigeria that did so much for SA liberation truly gone. In its place a leadership truly tied to US foreign policy. Nigeria has to understand that being the leading country in the continent comes with responsibility and decisiveness! Nigeria has to stand for peace, equality and human rights, otherwise, it is going to just occupy seats in the security council! |
“When I assumed office in 2010, out of the 35,000km of federal roads nationwide, only about 5,000km were motorable, Jonathan said on 11 November. “Today, that number has increased to about 25,000km.” Pres. Goodluck Jonathan ... True or false? See more at: http://africacheck.org/reports/are-the-majority-of-nigerias-roads-now-motorable/#sthash.49EOf02h.dpuf |
In the deal, Steinhoff acquires 92% of Pepkor for R62.8bn - with more than R30bn going to billionaire Christo Wiese (who is the chairman and lead shareholder in both Pepkor and Shoprite group) The brilliance of Christo Wiese cannot be emphasized enough. It is incredible that Wiese didn't opt for cash for his stake in Pepkor, he opted for shares- giving Christo Wiese almost 20% ownership of the now R200billion Steinhoff. That's a deal! Steinhoff International is the retail and furniture empire trading in Europe and SA with a listing on Johannesburg Sock Exchange. Pepkor is a clothing retail group trading in many African countries, headquartered in RSA. |
Of course the 4,000MW now being generated for Nigeria's population of 150 million is still far too low. In contrast, Brazil generates 100,000MW of grid-based power for 201 million (people) and South Africa generates 40,000MW for 50 million (people).... Building new power stations is capital intensive, but a necessity! Part of the challenge is to get existing stations operating at peak...budget allocation and drawing private capital to generation and distribution infrastructure. Little bit of policy direction and 'political will' will go a long way. |
As at May 29 1999, when PDP took office, Nigeria was generating 1,600 MW, but that today the country generates 4,568 MW of electricity See more : http://africacheck.org/reports/nigeria-does-generate-more-electricity-now-than-it-did-15-years-ago/ |
As as expression of Big Business Syndrome, Cell C, a leading network provider in South Africa shot itself in the foot, for failing to resolve a query by one of its client! He didn't let it go, like many usually do! He paid around R61 000 (an amount some South Africans don't even make in a year) to embarrass the telco. Cell C filed an urgent application suing for defamation, only to lose the case with costs! Would you ever attempt something like this?

Each Nigerian should really be proud about the splendour and sheer magnitude of AKS! It is a masterpiece and can rival any facility in the world! Perhaps this should be stark reminder of what Nigerians can achieve when they put their mind to it! Congratulations Naija! |

There was a massive lobbying campaign by various progressive orgs, and endorsements by local and international orgs. All in all, the municipality committed about R100m to develop the land and amenities for the beach. The approval was not without controversy... more or less similar to the satellite TV application to broadcast adult content. RSA is generally conservative, but application of law is largely progressive, e.g homosexuality laws, gender equity, adult tv and others. It would be interesting to observe what kind of precedent this sets! |

South African state-owned Public Investment Corporation to invest $2 Billion in Africa in this financial year! Nedbank snaps 20 % of Ecobank... |
anyanwu58: Nedbank to Take 20% Stake Worth $500m in Ecobank, Articles | THISDAY LIVENotwithstanding that Public Investment Corporation (PIC) is the biggest institutional holder of Ecobank Group units (close to 19 %)...and, with Nedbank exercising their options to buy, PIC indirectly increase its influence to close to 40 % of Ecobank group's authorised shares! PIC owns 6 % of Nedbank Group ( which appears small, but quite a fortune). In retrospect,it is biggest institutional investor in Nedbank Group, which owns Nedbank (the banking arm) PIC also owns a large chunk of shares in Old Mutual itself, that owns Nedbank Group, and Nedbank! So, at the end! South African government is the winner here! PIC is a state-owned pension fund manager. |
